China Construction Steel Prices Rebound in September as "Golden Season" Returns
China's construction steel market is heating up. According to data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and reported by SteelOrbis on September 15, 2026, the average price of 20 mm HRB 400E rebar rose by RMB 52.4 per metric ton (1.7%) to RMB 3,182.7/mt (approx. $470/mt) during mid-September (September 11–20), compared to early September.
The upward momentum was broad-based. Wire rod prices climbed 1.5%, medium steel plates gained 1.1%, hot rolled coil increased 0.8%, seamless steel pipes edged up 0.4%, and angles rose 1.0% over the same period.
This marks the second consecutive price increase for rebar. NBS data from September 14 showed that early-September rebar prices had already risen 1.7% from late August, confirming a firming trend as the traditional "Golden September and Silver October" construction season gets underway.
Several factors are driving the rally. Domestic demand is strengthening as infrastructure and real estate projects accelerate after the summer lull.
